We all know the classic Malkoff M60 drop-in using XR-E and an optic,
so when I saw this light for $29*~~ I said "gotta be worth a try, heck used M60s' go for $40~50"
Black and Decker ~ BDSPLEDR
The XR-E used has four wire leads going to emitter & the size of die is small {EZ 900 possibly??}
Glad to see the emitter is very centered,,,this is much more important on an optic than reflector.
Hard to tell the degree on the optic used,...I'll guess 8~10 degrees.
There is no 'doughnut' in hotspot,, which was very common in the 8 degree optics I used in some mods.
Tint is cool and there is a low mode, which is somewhat worthless because is way too close to the max beam output.
High Mode states 170lm & the beam is mostly just the hotspot. I test the throw comparison tonight.
I have no idea on runtime as of now.
The light is a bit top-heavy, but resting the light on your hand while gripping, its fine
It uses a 2.8 Ah 6V lead acid battery (sealed) ... its weight is not unusable, if that makes sense.
>> Recharging cord is included
You can momentary signal the light,
there is a lock switch that gets in the way just slightly, it locks On or Off the switch.
Remember, we all buy $29 keychain lights like its nothing, so yeah, I gave it a go.
^^ M60 for comparison purposes, the optics are nearly identical in size.
^^ Just Optic & emitter for the head
^^ 6~7 feet away
I'll update more later.
EDIT: 6/27 The astronomical weight of the Black & Decker forced me to return it.
