Tuesday, July 10th, CREE announced a new LED on the news portion of their website. Apparently it's supposed to be 20% more efficient than the original XP-G. It has the same footprint as the original and identical optical properties.

It's supposed to do 165 lumens per watt and 145 lumens per watt for the 6000K and 3000K variants respectively.

The press release says samples are available now and production quantities are available with standard lead times.

Who's going to be the first to get a hold of one...

I swear I searched every iteration of XP-G2. I apologize.

Mods please feel free to close this thread. I don't want any confusion.

Cheers!

Still, I feel this warrent a thread outside the /LEDs/ ghetto.

Personally, I would NOT buy a XP-G light with the old LED at this point - the new one is almost as effective as the XM-L at half the die size.
