I am new to this so here I go.
I am looking to build up a headlamp with external battery.
First I would like some info on Bulbs
Would like about 2hr burn time, so don't want a bulb that needs a huge battery.
I would think led is what I would want, MR16 size (if that is a size) but does not have to have those connectors, would like a spot and a flood (will experiment).
Have used lights with 15-20w Mr16's in the passed, this brightness works well.
Well that's all I have for now.
Thanks for all your time

Would a pre-built headlamp work? Or do you want a custom/DIY solution?

I'm not certain how bright the 20w MR16 bulbs are, but a quick search places the Philips ones at 320 lumen. To get a similar color, look at the neutral white LEDs and High CRI LEDs. The Cree XM-L, XP-G, or Nichia 219 High CRI LED could work for you.

Maybe have 2 LEDs, one in a smooth reflector or narrow optic for throw, and another in a wide angle optic for flood. 2 good 18650 batteries should give you enough power to run those LEDs on max for 2 hours.

The P60 drop-ins could work ok for this. Get the drop-ins you want, make a headlamp to hold them, and a battery pack at the back of the head for balance. This way it'll be easy to upgrade the LEDs or switch out the drop-ins for different tasks.

This could be better in the headlamp forum.
