I recently changed the emitter in a couple of "seconds"
the first attempt was a bit of a learning experience...
(as they all are) , when I removed the emitter from the
board, I didn't pay attention to the polarity of the leads
and when the emitter was off, I realized I had no idea how
to replace the emitter(which was + and -) so I decided to
put a 123A cell to it and check, VERY BAD IDEA ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif
the smoke pretty much told me that.
the board still works, but it's very dim...
can anyone repair this board ?

If you buy the IC, I can try to fix it up for you (I believe there is a DigiKey outlet in Toronto). I just don't want to charge you the $15 S&H on top of whatever actual material cost there may be. Or you can wait until I need to order something for my own.

The only thing I definately don't have is the IC. All other components (inductor/diode/capacitors) I can probably use things I have on hand. The early version (ie, the Grey Kit era) of Arc LS used LT1618f. I am not sure if that's still been used now. You should probably confirm with Peter first. I will have a look at the circuit and see if anything else needs to be changed and let you know the cost before I start working on it.

The LT1618 is still being used. If you ran open circuit, 99.9999% chance that's what's blown.
