Air rifle cleaning help

So i was cleaning an air rifle because it was pretty dirty and was out in rain. I think i was over ambitious with some tissue paper. Its a higher quality beemon so I dont want to junk it. But to make a long story short, a whole tissue is stuck inside the nose of the barrel. Ive tried lots of things but cant quite get the thing clear. I went out and bought another gun cleaning kit, stuck on the ram looking attachment, hammered it in hard for like 30 minutes and that rod got bent. i somehow bent the connecting part of the two cleaning poles, so now ive got tissue paper thats probably packed very tight, and a ramrod stuck in the barrel. in summary

Barrel : [2 inches of air][tissue paper probably 2 or 3 inches] [brass looking ramrod thats 6 or seven inches with a mangled connecter][4 inches of air]

it .177 cal.

i poured half a thing of honing oil in the barrel a month a go, seems to have soaked in but its still not moving with a hammer. Any tricks? paper eating chems that dont rust riffling in barrel? idk, im at a loss currently. i dont want to mangle the rifling too bad either...

Wow! I don't know how to clear the barrel, but I do have some advice. Air rifles are pretty sophisticated devices. How long did it sit in the weather?

Even if you successfully clear the barrel you should send the rifle to a specialist to have it de-lubed and re-lubed with the specialized lubes that have been developed for pneumatic arms.

Aside from negatively affecting accuracy and power you also don't want to use any lubes that may Diesel on your first shot. It happens.....

30-40 years ago Beeman's had the best shop (along with Feinwerkbau). I'd send it to one of them and have it worked over. Really.

Like Sub Umbra said, taking it to a proper repair shop is your best bet. The only thing I could think of that makes facial tissue dissolve is H2O. Toilet tissue will dissolve a lot easier in water, but I doubt you clean your guns with toilet paper. :p

Drano should work well on the toilet paper (cellulose) while theoretically not harming the bluing for brief time periods.

Unfortunately it sounds like you might have waterproofed the paper with the gun oil now?

With regards to physical damage, please keep in mind that steels used in airguns are much softer than firearm steels.

Edit: Your best bet would be to take it to a local gunsmith - they often have experience with all sorts of bore obstructions. The experienced ones have pretty much seen it all at this point - they've solved these problems before.

BTW I have taken the liberty of renaming your thread title slightly so as to more accurately represent your query, I hope that's ok.

Edit #2: Please keep in mind that the muzzle (i.e. the crown) of the barrel is far more susceptible to damage - abuse coming from the chamber end has much lower likelihood of being detrimental to accuracy than abuse coming from the muzzle (which can damage the crown). The condition of the muzzle is key to accuracy so please be careful working on that end.

There's that old saying "Quit while you're ahead", in this case I think it could better be stated as "quit while you're behind." I dont know why you would put tissue paper into the barrel, or anywhere inside any type of firearm or even an airgun. If you ended up with a kit to try and remove the tissue, why didnt you just buy a kit and use the proper patches included in that kit to clean it, because those patches dont fall apart and get stuck inside the inner workings of the gun. You can get a basic Hoppes .22 kit that should work fine in that gun if its a .22 cal air gun. If not, just buy that same basic kit, and also purchase a little plastic .17 cal screw on patch holder made for a .17 Hornady for $1 or whatever.

But for now, send it to the shop and let them tell you if its worth it to try and fix it.

My thoughts exactly.

Re: Gun cleaning help

Hi

I reckon now it's soaked in oil that the only way to remove the paper would be to draw it out using a screw cut in to the end of a rod..
I have a Logun S16 that I managed to get a heap of pellets jammed in the barrel, apart from heating the barrel to melt the pellets I think the only way was to screw a rod in to the lead (or Antimony) and draw out the pellets..

I used a diamond needle file to cut a coarse thread on the end of a steel rod to use like a corkscrew, a small O ring put over the rod will stop it from damaging the bore..
The rod is screwed into the obstruction and drawn out of the barrel, it took three attempts which cleared my barrel..

Good luck with the gun
