If you could design it yourself, what would be the Ideal 3-Mode Levels?
There's no wrong answer,,,whatever is best for you.

Simply for manufactures to look at what people are asking for...

My Example: {OTF Lumens}

2 lm
60 lm
300 lm

Always start on Low, Flat regulation, no PWM

I think I would say the same levels as Orbital.
Maybe medium a little lower.

And also low-med-high and no PWM.
God regulation but step down in good advance before dead battery (not from high to low and then totally dark after another 2 min on low).

For a pocket light:

1 lumen
30 lumen
200 lumen

Belt size or larger:

20 lumen
100 lumen
500 lumen

And of course, always low-med-high.

Pocket lights starting on low are OK by me, but I want my larger lights to always start on high.

I don't like progressive modes.

I like a two-level light which adjusts brightness by a twist of the head(or tail), so that I can pick what brightness level I want before I turn the light on.
And I like a forward clicky with momentary capability at the tail.
So, there's on/off switching at the tail, and brightness selection at the head(or tail).

I would accept an infinite adjustment ring at the head(or tail), which allows me to pick whatever brightness I want before I turn on the light, as an increased function over a simple High/Low selection. I don't need that as mandatory, but I'd accept it.
For me, being able to select the brightness before turn-on takes priority.

im not a fan of 3-modes either, 1 or 2 modes is enough for me.
and like Norm mentioned. start low on pocket lights, and high on larger worklights.
and im not too fond of any bezel twist action.

but for this thread..... :eek:

low = 2 lumens
med = 30 lumens
max = 200 lumens

How about a flashlight that lets you program the number of modes, the order of access, and the lumen.

Micro USB to a PC. Bring up the client SW and program your modes. All held in non-volatile memory on the light.

Exactly what I want

10-70-250 with a magnetic ring or twist head to adjust the brightness before you turn it on.

Flashlight. Not pocket stadium lighting.

But I like the way you think!

Okay well maybe something more realistic:
1 - 80 - 1000+.
Should be relatively doable for a pocket 18650 light. If anyone has suggestions :) (I'm also open to magnetic control rings but I think the EYE15 is too bright on low and some other nitpics).

Preset Level D - .90 lumens
Preset Level C - 27 lumens
Preset Level B - 170 lumens

Those are the settings I use with Preset level A at strobe :p

Probably pretty close to the rest, but I'd like it like this:

on AA batteries:
Low: 0.5 lumens
Medium: 20 lumens
High: 150 lumens (or whatever it would max out on, 200 with 2 minute stepdown to 120 is fine too).

For other batteries I'd still like the 0.5 and 20 lm for low and med, but with a 700lm max on 18650, maybe 5 and 100 would make a bit more sense.

I wouldn't mind having a lower low available as a fourth level that didn't get in the way. I really think that a low should allow one to walk around in the dark, although I have nothing against moonlight modes either. 3-5 lumens is obviously too low for a proper medium, though.

1%, 20%, 100% - relative to the maximum sustainable output (I loathe lights that can't run at full power for the duration of the batteries ability to provide power).
