Thread: New Round of Beach Beam Shots including the New Oveready E2E Triple XPG2!

  1. #1

Party New Round of Beach Beam Shots including the New Oveready E2E Triple XPG2!

    What happens when I:
    A) come to the beach for the weekend
    B) have a new Oveready Triple XPG2 E2E Copper

    ?

Beamshots! Same location that many of you are familiar with - bummer, though - I didn't bring my tripod. Still, putting the camera and the lights side by side on the deck railing worked pretty well!

The location - Southern Maryland on the banks of the Potomac River:

(You can see the tip of the dock about 75 feet out)

The players - in this photo, left to right: Quantum DD, Muyshondt Aeon, Muyshondt Nautilus, Oveready E2E Copper Triple XPG2, Alpha Blue Label MCE 4500k, Malkoff Hound Dog XML, Malkoff Wildcat XPG2

    The 'other' players:
Thrunite T10 (XPG), legacy Novatac 120P (unmodded), HDS Clicky 170 - I modded it with an XPG2, and no intro needed - the SWGG Spy XPG 007

    The setup:

    The Beam Shots

They are all good - some great - the Spy is nuts when you consider its size! The Malkoffs are amazing - but that E2E is just outrageous!

I sometimes find it easier to compare with a video - I've provided a video for you below:

There's a photo album posted HERE that has emitter view shots of most of these lights, as well as higher res versions of the photos.

So whattaya think? They are ALL amazing. That Oveready E2E is just crazy - for the size, it packs an amazing punch!

    Hope you enjoyed!

I did enjoy. I always love your beamshots Danny. Thanks for taking the time to post them.

You know I'm a warmer tint kind of guy so I really like what I see from the Alpha Blue Label and I'm shocked that the NovaTac is unmodded. That is either the warmest tint I have ever seen from a stock NovaTac or else all of the other lights are incredibly cool in tint.

I'm waiting for the neutral and/or warm tinted XPG2's before taking that plunge, but I do know that anything that comes from Oveready is top notch.

    Thanks again.

I was shocked at the Novatac, too, when I got it. Just luck of the tint lottery! I love warm tints (as you know) but I also love the pure snow white tint that is coming out of most of the XPG2s I've seen so far. Loving the Wildcat and the Oveready!

    Great shots!

I'll have to see how my M2-XML Neutral does against my E2e copper triple when I get it from Moddoo (this week....)

Thank you for posting this. Well done !

The alpha blue label's beam pattern is amazing. But man that Triple Copper E2e really shocks me.

    Mine is arriving tomorrow.

    Thanks!

It appears to me that the XPG2 Wildcat and the XPG2 Copper E2E aren't much different, although the E2E does seem to have a larger hot spot that dominates the center of the photo.
I think that the Wildcat XPG2 appears to be a further thrower, if you look at the posts at the end of the pier, and compare the E2E to the Wildcat photo.

But the Oveready triples are really amazing performers for such a small size, and I just recently bought one, and am amazed at it myself. It's my new EDC.
The Wildcat and Hound Dog XML remain my belt lights for longer use on High mode, because their larger head mass doesn't get as hot as fast.

Thanks, all. You know that I enjoy doing these. No one mentioned the little Veleno Designs Quantum DD or the ThruNite T20. Tiny little lights putting out a ton of light. Although the Nautilus and Aeon were not as powerful, it's still amazing to me that these older design little lights reach out as much as they do - they both measure ~80 lumen in my sphere. You can see a distinct difference in the Aeon and the Nautilus - the Aeon 'looks brighter' while in truth, the Nautilus is just putting more light out there with its longer throw. If you look closely, the end of the pier is more illuminated with the Nautilus - makes sense with the deeper reflector.

The 007 always shocks me. Small light, small reflector, amazing throw.

And my lousy mod job on the Clicky functions nicely. I'm loving the XPG2 on every light that uses it.

    I find this photo interesting:

    Dan - nice shots.

I amazed to see how the Aeon compares with the 120P. Nicer tint and better looking beam.

I would be curious to see how medium on the E2 compares with the other small lights.

The OR Copper Triple will beat everything on Medium setting too.
It's simply a higher output light, and the 30% Medium will be stronger than any of those others too. Some of the others don't really have a Medium level, just Hi/Lo.

I'm in the middle of being totally enamored with my Torch Lab Moddoolar Triple, so I can certainly agree with the Torch Lab love.
They are wondrous little lights in a very big way.
And the Oveready treatment of the E2E was a very artistic presentation.

That being said, the Wildcat is close enough that if I wanted to have some real run time and less concern about heat, I'd take the Wildcat. It may be bigger, but it has its place.
And the Hound Dog at much lower lumens is a good complement to either one, as a thrower that still has some very decent spill area that's pretty bright.

The small size of the E2E is attractive, yet it is the small size that limits battery capacity for longer run times, and lacks the size and mass of the larger lights to deal with the heat of the very high output. I see the exact same characteristics with my small Torch Lab Moddoolar Triple.

    Each light has its role.
Some of those other lights are MUCH smaller than the E2E. But they aren't as powerful. Some are bigger and not as powerful as the E2E.
It's a matter of what you want the light to do, and all of these lights here on this thread are very nice lights that have their places.
The E2E is the "output king" in this contest.

FWIW, I have my Torch Lab Moddoolar Triple battery tube length configured the same as the OR Copper E2E Triple. It takes 2 x 18350 for full regulated output and shorter run time, or 1 x 18650 for lower unregulated output and longer run time, in the same tube, so no carrying extra tubes for the nice flexibility. Plus, it can be run as a clicky from the tail, or as a twisty from the head, so you have 2 different hand position options on the same light. Just carry a spare battery set, and everything else is already on the configuration. Absolutely GREAT versatility!
If you made it shorter or longer, you would lose one or more of these options. So, this is really the most overall-efficient size when you consider all the possible functions it can do.
The E2E Copper Triple has all that same versatility.
    Great package!

It is a great feeling to know that you have a very small light in your pocket that can pump out that much output on demand.

I must say that the one that really stood out for me was the Alpha. The E2E is definitely impressive, but I love the tint coming out of the Alpha.

    The Quantum is surprising too.

If you look at those pictures, are the tints accurate compared with how they looked in real life? The Alpha 4500 seems really yellow. The Malkoff Hound dog seems like a nice, slightly warm tint though. The Thrunite T20, Spy 007 and Malkoff Wildcat seem neutral white. Is that how they really look, or is the camera skewing the tints?

Congrats on the cessation of smoking - hang in there. 16 years for me in November....

I think the answer is "a little bit of both."

To MY eyes - the Wildcat, T20 and E2E Triple are a very nice snow white. The Spy has the slightest tinge of green (white wall.) The Hound Dog has a bit more green - typical of most non-neutral XMLs I have seen. The Alpha has a beautiful neutral (4500k) tint - FAR from yellow in real life.

I use the same camera with the same settings every time. It's a nice camera - a Canon 40D. I set the white balance manually to 5000k. Exact same lens, too.

Here's a similar shot from a round I did in August of this year:

And the shot from this week (slightly different angle because, as I mentioned, I forgot my tripod!)

They look very similar in tint, although the different angle results in differently light reflected back to the camera lens. And looking at them without the other tints to compare to, they look very neutral (to me.)

So I dare say again, it's a bit of both - camera inaccuracy (although not much) and a warmer tint. Hope this helped.

I've not played with the 40D, but I believe you will get more accurate representation with a lower K setting. The 20D for example, has perfect color representation at 4300.

BTW, if you want to put in the time (and buy an expo disc), I can walk you through the calibration process I developed here:
