Been climbing for forty years and have watched the tremendous advances in lighting, especially for the headlamps.

I've got a four year old Pila charger that I use to recharge my AW 2200-2900-3100 cells for the 18650 flashlights. Works great!

Just replaced my Princeton Tec EOS with a BD Storm for use on the high peaks in all seasons and being that the Storm takes four AAA's, I'd like to use rechargeable cells, size 10440 in the Storm.

About all I could find are 'unprotected' 10440's.

Will this cause any problems with the Storm... using the unprotected cells?

Anything I need to really watch out for other than running the cells too long?

Appreciate!

I think 4x10440's will blow that thing. Normal aaa is 1,5 V each. 10440 is 3,7V (actually more like 4,1V freshly charged. Its prob designed for 6v max, and might get 16,4V with 4 10440's :poof: depending on how the battery pack is wired. A single 10440 is a popular choise in some types of single aaa lighs. Multicell aaa lights will die with 10440's. You should take a peek at the zebralight h600, and continue using 18650 if you want a big advantage in runtimes or output.

Thanks for the reply! I like the Storm, it's light and very powerful with some neat emergency settings.

I might have to take a serious look at Eneloop AAA's with charger. Unless there are other recommendations.

AAA Lithiums are excellent for colder weather but they are fairly expensive. Especially for four of them. Usually carry an extra set of four... emergency use.

Already have a regular 600 Zebralight, excellent hand held flashlight, perhaps my best to date.
