Maglite LED with dead bulb - help.

Hi there,

New to this forum - so hello....

A quick question, that I am sure someone can answer really quickly.

A mate gave me his non-working Maglite LED. It's the genuine LED version.
The Bulb has failed (not sure why, but it's definitely US)
But the bulb is an odd shape - a normal bulb will not fit.
I haven't been able to find a replacement LED bulb for this.
I am wondering what the best thing to do is?

Where can I find a replacement bulb?
Or:-
Could I change the switch/bulbholder assembly to a non-led one and fit a "normal" LED conversion.

The serial number is DL200604942.

Any ideas?

Thanks, in advance.

Mike.

The "L" in the serial # denotes LED (light emitting diode) so this model does not use an incandecent bulb, you would need a replacement LED if that's the case. It would be rare if the LED failed but possible, could also be the switch or even the batteries.

The Bulb is definitely US.
There are also signs of err.. trauma to the bulb - looks like it's been messed about with.
(Probably why my mate gave it to me).

Yes, I need a replacement LED - but where do I get one from?
I haven't seen one listed anywhere.
The LED bulbs that you can buy to fit a std maglite won't fit the LED one - the bulbholder is very different.
The Maglite LED element will not fit a standad maglite and viz-a-viz.

That's why I was wondering wether or not the Switch/lampholder assy can be swapped for a standard one.

Any ideas?

I was fixing up some old incandescent Mags I got in bulk and sent them an email about a year and a half back to ask if parts would be available to upgrade them to LED. At the time, they told me they had no plans to offer parts like they do with the incandescent products. Don't know if it is still the current position.

The assemblies can be swapped. I did that when I bought a black 2D LED unit and put the guts in a red 2D incandescent. I had to swap the reflector too if I recall correctly.

Could you get a picture of the "bulb" (the LED).

I'm not sure if it is easy to swap the LED. From the few pictures I remember, it seems like it could take some work to change the LED someone killed it.

Are you in USA?
I have this and no use for it, if this looks like it may fit then PM me your address and I will send it to you. If you abroad I can still send it to you if you want but then you need to cover shipping cost.

I will include torx key for switch replacement in case you need it.

... alternately you could post a WTB thread on the marketplace or DIY marketplace. TONs of mag modders out there, I am positive others will have the parts you need.

I did that once, wanting to mod my 2AA minimag with the LED pill from the 2D, and make it a single mode 2AA, ON-Off only. Turns out a local member and I met up and worked a trade.
