Flashlight review turns serious.

I have a brand spankin' new PowerTac "Warrior" that I purchased just recently (Real World Review Pending). As I was doing my "standard neighborhood walk" I notice some folks near the edge of our park walking around (with crap flashlights) and calling out a name. I thought they were looking for their dog or cat (a regular occurrence in the area).

NOPE! I wound up joining in on a two hour "search and rescue" for a lost young girl.

The "Warrior" really did an excellent job of illuminating wide swaths of the park and because of that I spotted the dropped textbook that led us to the area where another guy spotted the girl. She had been coming home across the park, slipped on the edge of the path and BADLY hurt her ankle just before dark. She had given up trying to crawl home and was pretty much laying there crying in pain.

(Just FYI, she's fine now but she did fracture her ankle).

I don't think I'll try incorporating this into my "regular" review methodology but it sure was real-world!

Give your kids phones. Give them lights to signal for help, or to see where they're walking. I'm glad she was (mostly) okay. Not long ago a girl was grabbed from a park and found dead. Keep 'em safe!

@ AnAppleSnail, Sadly, not the kind of family in a financial position to give their kid a cellphone. Still, they should at least have had a "buddy system" or an adult along, she was too young to be crossing that park at dusk by herself! Oh well. It was pretty evident that the event itself was enough punishment for the parents.

What a difference a high-powered flashlight can make. You basically shortened the search by hours. Good job, dude. Glad to know that the girl is fine, too.

Kinda reminds me of the time when I used my Scorpion V2 to illuminate the entire scene of a vehicular accident for hour and a half.

After finding what kids in my daughters grade 6 class are doing with their phones I'd rather risk having her fall in a ditch. I monitor what happens on her Ipod, but other parents sure don't. Texting/messaging, easy access to hardcore porn, and Facebook are not doing them any good. They are doing stuff in grade school that my friends and I didn't get into until at least grade 11/12...some of it I still haven't done.

Perhaps a flashlight, then... I can chip in a $1 light from Home Depot that I've checked over for good function.

Never heard of Powertac. I'm liking that single AA model. How is their quality?

I'm getting ready to do a writeup of the 1xAAA "E3" as well. So far my only criticism of the E3 is that the o-ring should be a little heavier.

Thus far the build quality on both lights seems to be excellent though both of them came pretty "dry" and wanted some Nyogel <grin>.

How long have they been around and do you own one?

I'm not sure, but they appear to be made by the same factory that makes Thrunite, the styling is very similar with some models seemingly the same across the two brands. Interestingly the carry-cases look the same as provided with many Olight lights so maybe the Olight and Thrunite production is closely related too.

Word from the PowerTac guys is that they used to have "a relationship" with OLight, but then decided to "go their own way" (whatever that means).
