Hello, I have two questions. Can I run. Xenon short arc bulb off a regular xenon/hid ballast. Also I have a 100 watt hid system now and was wondering if a 55 watt short arc would be brighter. I have found short arc bulb with the h4 base I need

No you can't. An HID might be doing 100 Lumens/Watt (excluding ballast efficiency - subtract 20%) and a small Xenon Short Arc might be doing 20 Lumens/Watt. So a 100W HID does maybe around 9,000-10,000 Lumens and a 75W Xenon short-arc maybe aroudn 1500 (search for Maxabeam). Thats a very big difference.
The Xenon Short arc will produce a tighter, much more intense beam when collimated correctly. This is good when you want a light that throws far.

Take a look at the Medium Iron Beamshots that BVH did
