Here is a quick build I was wanting to do for a bit. Its going to be used mainly for quick sessions due to the lack of mass it has.

Spec:

Host - Aurora C6 DIY
Heatsink - Stock
LED - XML-U2
Driver - KD 3040mA driver
Optics - Stock (reflector is hazy and junk)
Batteries - 1 x 18650

Its not too bad. after a min of running on high the body gets a little warm. Not something I would want to use for more than 2-3min. It would just get too hot

Host

LED and driver installed

I love this light! And putting the parts together yourself is the way to go.
I see you got the uber-good 3050ma driver, too.

I have every day carried this light for about a year now, in a belt holder.
Got my DIY kit from dealextreme, my 5000K neutral XML from Newark Electronics, and my 2.8 amp driver from Shiningbeam.

But your initial statement about it getting hot needs repeating.
This is a Danger Light!
After 5 minutes on high, the light reads measures 135 degrees F.
The maximum temperature for a LiIon 18650 is 140 degrees.
So after 10 minutes on high, this light would be a danger!
I think 6 watts would be a safer max for this size host.

Good work!

Good looking light!

Any chance of more details of parts and where you got them from?

Thanks

If you can and have the space, wrap the reflector and pill with some aluminum foil, it'll help with heat distribution.
