Is this Maglite LED or Incandescent?

Hi guys,

I bought a Mini Maglite Solitaire LED off eBay from a popular seller with many thousands of feedback. It has been a nightmare just to get my little $12 light I'll tell you. It has taken many messages back and forth for the item to finally arrive. It came today and well, I am sure it is the old incandescent and not the new LED as described. The yellow coloured light gives it away, can someone please confirm? Please respond quickly as tomorrow is conveniently the last day before I can contact Paypal with a dispute! It seems to look like a bulb when I open it up.

Cheers

I'd say it was an incan looking at that last picture.

From the Maglite solitaire LED thread here on CPF

Definitely looks exactly like the one on the right! The date in the booklet says 2012, I didn't think they were still making the incandescent ones in 2012. I can see filaments in the bulb it's got to be an incandescent.

EDIT: Okay I opened a Paypal dispute let's see how this goes! Fools are probably thinking "Pfffft who cares there's no difference between incandescent and LED!"

I noticed on the relisted item they changed the description so it no longer says "Torch Type: LED".

It is definitely an incandescent. Here is the best way to (currently) identify white LEDs.

All white LEDs appear yellow when off. All. Every single one in production. There's a blue LED under a yellow phosphor covering, and this appears yellow when off. If you don't see this, it's not (white) LED.

there never has a led version been offered
(even when especially THIS model really would benefit from it)

... when You look at a small "bulb", showing a wire inside, made from glass, giving a full circle 360 degree globe like light in a warm white color --> bulb
;)

PS: do Yourself a favour and get any actual led light. In that size I would advise a Fenix E01

Definitely made in LED, see http://www.maglite.com/maglite_solitaire_led.asp

And I actually already own the Fenix, I just wanted a cheap Maglite light to put on my keys rather than something worth a bit more money.

EDIT: Seller gave me a refund and told me to keep it. Woo free torch, probably just keep it on my keys, it's not bright compared to an LED but it's better than nothing :)

They do indeed have Maglite Solitaire LED's. I own one, but they are pretty difficult to get at the moment.

If you wanted to, you could always mod it?

Then if you did end up buying a LED solitaire somewhere, you'd have two! Double the power >=D

Definitely made in LED,
wow, thanks. I stand corrected.
never have seen, heard or read of a led model ...

PS: still think the E01 has the edge.
stronger, harder finish (HAIII model), shorter ... which makes up for the most important point, as for a 1*AAA --> small size is key, imho

Isn't there a drop-in mod? Does it being incandescent bother you that much if you can just replace the bulb with and LED (though most will agree that buying one with and LED as it came from the factory is cheaper)?
