Chavez is officially dead

I am from Venezuela, finally the government announced today that Chavez died 03/05/2013, which here is wise had happened in December 2012, I am opposed to their mandate, but I reckon he was someone who left a legacy in our country.

What can you comment about it?

Chavez is quite the controversial figure in the American media, so not all the comments you're going to get will be all that kind. I've done some modest research on the guy, and near as I can tell, he's not really all that remarkable aside from keeping the country at about the same level for the entirety of his run; the country hasn't grown or advanced much, and though he certainly talked a lot about what needs to be done and grandiose plans with his ridiculously long televised meetings, it seems like none of it really came to fruition.

Not much that I can or would say here, what I know of him is filtered by our media and I wouldn't want to presume the right to say something negative about another person's deceased head of state, my question is what can you comment about him?
