So who has gotten an L5 who has a light meter?

How many candelas in the center of the beam?

(lux at 1m, fc at 10ft x 100, etc.)

It's hard to tell from the beamshots. It looks as if the P60 beam is still brighter in the beamshots, but it's hard to tell. The L5 covers a wider area than the E2e or the P60 which is good, but I'm interested in throw.

When's the L6 expected? I thought it was about the same time.

Cheers,

Richard

I have a lux meter and am expecting to get an L5 today sometime [according to Fedex]. If no one has responded by then I will post some numbers.

Fedex finally delivered, here are some other numbers [in ascending order] as well as the L5 for your amusement:

Measured from 1 meter:

L4 = 541 x 1 x 1 = 541 lux
L5 = 1582 x 1 x 1 = 1,582 lux
E2e = 182 x 10 x 1 = 1,820 lux
McLux 917 PR = 222 x 10 x 1 = 2,220 lux
A2 = 241 x 10 x 1 = 2,410 lux
G2/P61/UCL = 261 x 10 x 1 = 2,610 lux
SN II = 610 x 10 x 1 = 6,100 lux

Measured from 2 meters:

TigerLight = 505 x 10 x 4 = 20,200 lux
MC w WA01160 = 820 x 10 x 4 = 32,800 lux

Measured from 5 meters:

X990 = 1400 x 10 x 25 = 350,000 lux

Footnotes:
1) The second multipler is for the LM631 range setting.
2) The last muliplier the distance [in meters] squared.
3) I measured from the minimum distance that did not OverFlow the LM631.
4) I do not know why my numbers vary from others on this page [batteries ... but that doesn't explain the regulated lights].

First, this is the whitest and cleanest 5W I've ever seen. The L5 also ships with the M2 body (dual o-rings in tailcap) and the clickie has great action and the constant on must be deliberate (although some may object and want a softer click).

1m = 2000-2350 Lux
3m = 120-145 Lux

I measured my E2e and my A2 some time ago.
The values I got:
E2e 2370 Lux
A2 2260 Lux
The distance was about 1m.
My values are probably not completely comparable with yours though, since the measuring instruments/environments are different. But it does seem like the L5,E2e & A2 are close in throw.

Bjorn

Edit:
Some more values from my test:
L4 654 Lux
M3 (MN10 125 lu) 5390 Lux
E1 KL1 426 Lux
A2 LEDs 62 Lux

Your E2e # is very close to my E2e-CJ reading, so I would imagine your other readings would be relatively close to mine. I haven't taken too many readings as I've had the meter less than a week (Meterman LM631).

I'm posting some pics of the L5 and the new packaging in FC's L5 thread.

What kind of E2e do you guys have?

My readings are close on the L4 (mine is about 600cd ) and my P90 and P91 measurements are both around 3500 cd (lux @ 1m)

BUT with my Meterman LM631 I only get 1350 for the E2e and 1450 for the P60 in G2 with stock plastic lens.

One thing we have to be VERY careful of is that we don't redirect some spill light back into the meter. For example, taking the measurement over a white desk may increase the number over that taken over a black carpet. I've seen the stainless steel ruler I use add to the illuminance measurement. It's annoying.

Maybe a hair more with totally fresh out of the box batteries, but I usually condition the lights for five minutes or so before measurement. I have tried two different MN03? in the E2e.

At 2000 cd, this is indeed almost interesting. Going from 600 to 2000 is noticeable. I wonder how much more the L6 will be??

IF (and it's a big if) you define throw as where you get 1fc of illumination (and that's arbitrary), then the L4 is 25 feet and the L5 is 45 feet.

Contrast to my current EDC throw light, the SL TL-3 and you get 90-100 feet. Hence my interest in perhaps waiting for the L6...but, I'll admit, the L5 is very very tempting.

That's as good a definition as any. Any other definition will be just as arbitrary. Something like that would be useful only for comparing the throw of one light against another. There wouldn't be any way of using that to figure what you'd actually get in the real world.

My first measure of the E2e was close to yours, after fresh batteries it went up a few hundred lux, but still not as high as the others have measured. I wonder if the Z57 resistance issue might be coming into play on my E2e, but I would not think it should make that big of a difference with fresh batteries.
