Hi all,

thought i would share my story I'm only new but this should point out just how important it is to bein possession of a torch with SOS/Strobe functionality.

i only purchased my first torch 1 week ago (Fenix TK75)

last night my dad suddenly called out to me and said "sun i think u better call an ambulance"

all indications pointed towards heart attack

i immediately called for an ambulance.

after waiting 12 minutes whilst constantly monitoring i received a call from emergency switch asking me to re advise my address as the driver couldn't find my house.

I gave this information again and over the next 5 minutes i was called to give more directions 3 more times.

finally it occurred to me. I told them to start at the Northern most end of the road that intersects my street and to drive south and look for the roundabout thats flashing and turn left.

The driveway with the flashing torch is where u need to be.

i ran out place my tk75 on SOS mode 400lmn and placed on my driveway facing the roundabout. I would have preferred strobe mode but didnt want to blind them

within 1 minute ambulance located my house.

this TK75 potentially saved my dads life

he is now stable in the cardiac care unit of my local hospital

Thank goodness for my torch

Glad to know that everything goes well in the end. Now this convince me again it is better to have Stobe or SOS mode than nothing. Yeah, we just don't like it in the normal lighting mode.

How a simple function on a light can help saving a life.
Hope he recovers quickly and can go home soon. I prefer that all my lights have a SOS and/or Strobe mode, just in case you need it.

Glad your Dad's OK!

BTW - If someone has a torch that has strobe but not SOS, and you want to avoid blinding people, etc, point it at something on strobe, a tree, the side of a building/vehicle, etc, so the object becomes a flashing object, rather than the light strobing peoples eyes directly.

Similarly, if you have a light with no blinky modes, you can sometimes hang the light from a rope/string, and twist it, and let it swing about, or shine it on something that is moving, like a fan, something ELSE hanging and blowing in the wind, etc....the motion will make the light dance about enough to draw attention the same way.

A diffuser would work as well :D

Mate, that is fookin awesome, well done. If you think about it, the potential of lights like ours to save lives is always there and in countless scenarios. An SOS device, a defensive tool, a search and rescue tool, a location beacon. And people wonder why we always carry them around with us! It makes you wonder why our governments doesnt give out fenix/sunwayman/nitecore/eagletac/olight/klarus/zebra as standard freakin' issue to the emergency services/military.

Hope your dad gets well soon, mate. VIVA LA LUZ!!!

Hey guys,

thanks for all the well wishes for my dad! He is out of hospital now as no reason could be found for his pains and he will now be in and out of specialists for a while!

but still he is in a great frame of mind.

he now also appreciates my torch lol

What a wonderful, practical use for a high powered torch! I'm very happy that your dad ended up being okay. Hopefully they'll find out what triggered the event after running those tests.

I love happy endings! :)
