What would you rather have?

These are my things to consider:

  • Maximum output: the 800 lumens is really important to me but more importantly the amount of time I get out of that mode before it drops to high.
  • Batteries - 2500mAh eneloop for ea4 and orbitron 2900 good choices for tk35?
  • Build qulity and aesthetics
  • Comfort
  • Other similar performing lights (same size or smaller)
  • Temperature. I prefer more natural for outdoors.

Both of these lights is like comparing an apple to an orange.

Anyways, pro's and con's time:

TK35

Pro's
1. Solid design, the V2 no longer has tint lottery
2. uses 18650 giving it better run time over the EA4.
3. Can maintain turbo longer than the EA4.
4. Fenix quality

Con's
1. Might have a little rattle when shaken. (not like its a big negative feature)
2. Design's a bit old long due revamp needed for this light

EA4

Pro's
1. Smaller
2. Can tail stand easier than the TK35
3. One button compared to two buttons on the TK35.
4. Has a lockout feature
5. SS on the bezel to protect against falls.
6. Voltage indicator.
7. beacon on the switch to make it easier to find in total darkness.
8. solid unibody design

Cons
1. Runtime not as good as the TK35.
2. Output on turbo cant stay as long as the TK35.
3. Runs on AA's. Real flashaholics use Lithium cells too.
4. Rubber button switch will balloon and warp if subjected to heat (search the forums you will see this design flaw)

Verdict: Which one is better? Since i own both lights its like choosing which one is my favorite child, so I love them both dearly, flaws and all.

Both are comfortable in the hand. But of course the Tk35 is a bit bigger.

As for other comparable lights:

for AA there's the Sunwayman D40A

and for the 18650 lights, check out the Nitecore EC25, the P25 and so on.

Thank you, good info. How quickly do you think the D40A and EA4 drop from turbo (using appropriate batteries)?

We're starting to lean toward the D40A now

roadkill has done an excellent post firstly :)
the ea4 has a timed step down from turbo at 3 mins.. you can overide this and use again. the d40a is 3.5 mins on timed step down turbo, again you can overide and go back into turbo. the tk35 has 20 mins timed step down from turbo.

just some info on the D40a if your thinking of using lithium PRIMARY cells. it doesnt seem to like them.. from what ive read it jumps out of turbo quickly ? . i have the ea4..d40a..tk35 myself . great lights imo.

which ever light you choose make sure you buy excellent batteries.

but which would i choose if had too ?? i couldnt do that so i purchased them all LOL

Based on it, I think a TK35 would be better. AA batteries are not as good as 18650s to support high lumens if you like to use it often. And there seems some switch problems (check other links) with the EA4 currently.

Instead of having to buy all 3, because I think that's what its looking like would happen... I think I'm just going to get a Nitecore TM15 and be done with it Thoughts on that...??
