There are two major reasons they want to start taxing the internet:
1: They want the tax money to spend on "silly social programs".
2: And this is really the important one:
They want to CONTROL the internet. By taxing it, they can control its content much more easily, and politicians HATE the internet, because the truth about them spreads faster through the 'net than ever before, and politicians fear the truth.
