Check out this site that took one of my reviews and put it on two of their pages without permission!!!

I did a little "photoshopping" on the hotlinked pictures!

(links removed - no longer active)

UPDATE

The offending pages have been removed after an e-mail to their hosting company - sorry if you missed it!

Here is basically what it looked like:

What silly people! Perhaps you should threaten them with a lawsuit under the DCMA /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/whoopin.gif

Good job, QB. They don't seem to be very smart people. Not that they copy your review without permission, they are also stupid enough to HOTLINK your pictures. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif

How did you find out about it?

Well folks, looks like the show's over - they took down the pages already. FWIW, they had an exact copy of my review of the Inretech White minimag LED module with pictures hotlinked to my site.

A lurker from CPF who also reads my site sent me an E-mail and let me know about the violation.

Thanks Mark!

I printed it off to PDF with your altered graphics in there if you want a copy drop me a pm or email /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I regularly check the referrer logs in my server and it has shown me many interesting things! I have several times found software piracy sites linking to my software with stolen serial numbers and the like. Get ahold of your hosting company and tell them you want access to that information.

I would have been tempted to replace the pictures with porn /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

( unfortunately you probably would have been nailed, hmm, I
wonder if you could have redirected the request...)

James, Thanks for the offer, but I did the IE "Save entire web page" dealie for both pages.

I'll have to see about the referrer logs.

I've already had an e-mail from the hosting company and the website owner. Seems that the response is always faster if you contact the hosting company. They admit they were wrong, removed the pages and will post a link to the review instead of copying it, which is fine with me.

And BOY OH BOY was I tempted to slap some porn pictures out there, but I figured a nice bright red and yellow banner would do the trick without being too controversial. I didn't want to somehow make it look like THEY were the victim of a hack attack or something.

That is the recommended way of doing things. But if there's even the slightest risk of getting in trouble for it, the "stolen" and "do not buy" banners are as good as anything.

Very nicely done, Quickbeam! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've always enjoyed doing that to the idiots who grab images/text that is not theirs.

The only time it didn't work for me was when a porn site grabbed an article I'd written and reproduced it word-for-word on their site. Never could get any response from them or their providers. *sigh*
