How long will 2 Pila 150\'s run a KL6?

Any guesses?

FC did a runtime test with the KL6 and it ran about 1 hour and 45 minutes in full regulation off 3x123's

Re: How long will 2 Pila 150\'s run a KL6?

From a pure stored energy comparison it would go like:

3 SF123: 3 x 1400ma x 3V = 4200x3 = 12,6W
2 150B: 2 x 1000ma x 3,7V = 3700x2 = 7,4W
2 168B: 2 x 1400ma x 3.7V = 5180x2 = 10,36W
2 17500: 2 x 1100ma x 3.7V = 4070x2 = 8,14W
2 17670: 2 x 1600ma x 3.7V = 5920x2 = 11,84W

Now taking FCs 1,75h for the 3 x 123 setup a straight-forward calculation which should make sense as the voltage under load should be similar I would extrapolate around 1h runtime using two 150Bs. (1,75/12,6*7,4=1,027)

Using the longer M4 body to run the KL6 head off 2 168Bs at 1400ma would give almost 1,5 hours though. Using higher cap bare cells like 17500s and 17670s at 1100ma/1600ma respectively would result in calculated 1,13h/1,64h then.

YMMV

Depending on Vf of the LED, two Li-Ion's may not run the KL6 in regulation. Two fresh Li-Ion's off the charger are about 8.3V open circuit. Some voltage sag occurs during load, add to that voltage losses in the circuit, and you could be out of regulation if you have a LED with a high forward voltage. Higher capacity cells will experience less sag. If you really want to run it off Li-Ions you need to buy several L6's and figure out which one has the lowest Vf and highest output /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (yeah right) Figuring out which has the lowest Vf is easy if you have a bench supply and ammeter. Precision is not required since you're looking for the lowest Vf.

Anyone actually try two 168B's on a L6? I'm considering going rechargable on all my flashlights if the glass slipper fits.

I've tried 2 150S's in my L6 but they are too long and don't fit. They will drive the L6 in regulation, but since they don't fit I didn't bother doing a runtime test. I believe it's the clickie tailcap spring & innards that prevent it from fitting. So if you used an older LOTC it would probably work.

The protection circuit in the Pilas make them longer than 50mm. I measure two 18500 cells against 3x123's and it is almost exactly the same length. Unfortunately, these are bare cells and I don't recommend anyone using them since they don't have the protection circuit. Interesting that the Pila's won't fit since two 150s's work OK in my C3. They're a bit long as in Sean's picture but the spring in the lamp and tailcap provide enough slack to make it work. I do have the older LOTC and this might make the difference in my C3.

Guys,

May be someone will come out with machined CNC adapter for using 2 pila's 150's ???

You could try using 1 150 as the protection and 1 17500. 2x150 is 4mm longer but using a mix gets you 2mm over 100mm ( which is the length of 3x123 ) you could probably get it to work. I did this to my tl3 and it works. Do a search for the gory details.
