hello,
was just wondering what the difference is when someone's title is listed as "Flashaholic*", "*Flashaholic*", or just plain ol' "Flashaholic"? Also are certain members allowed to have custom titles? I noticed that Mr.Bulk is a "Photon Flinger" and Roth is titled as a "Lathe Monster".
Was very curious is all.

The special titles that Mr. Bulk and Roth have are because they are administrators/moderators and can pick whatever title they like. The stars next to people's names are the remnants of the post count system that got so out of hand. Before, for every certain amount of posts you created, you would receive a star by your name. Like any internet messageboard there are people who post 'fluff' to boost their post count and thus receive stars by their names which apparently makes them feel important.

IIRC
Newbie = <20 posts
Flashaholic = 20-499 posts
Flashaholic* = 500-4999 posts
*Flashaholic* = 5000+ posts

(In the "old" system it was the same for the transition from Newbie to Flashaholic then an asterisk got added after the title for each 1000 posts, which to some made a lot more sense than the "new" system.)

There are a number of threads scattered about in CPF on this subject, but the easiest way to find this and much other information is in the CPF FAQ.

what tom said...

the astericks were put back into use several weeks ago as a way to recognize those who recognize those who contribute much to cpf.

as looke said, admins and moderators can have special titles.
