I had Vinh Mod a custom made 3 inch aspheric i bought from a cpf member. He put in a dedomed xpg2 driven to 5.5 amps. i measured 7931lux at 10m with the aspheric and 4971k with the tn31vn which is almost 800k for the aspheric and 500k for the tn31vn. its my poor mans deft-X lol. as you can see by the beamshots the aspheric out throws the tn31vn by quite a bit.

Oh and I'd be interested if it wasn't too expensive. It would be a fun light but for me not worth a huge investment.

Just how far does this or one similar throw? I'm guessing 1000 meters would be really easy? How far?

IF the lux at 10 meters can be back calculated to ~ 793,100 cd, it would throw to an ANSI 1,750 meters or so....which is about a mile.

:D

The spec for the DEFTX is ~ 900k cd, with the new ones being mostly ~ 1 million cd.

The new DEFTX go for about $800....so as far as cd per $, this is ahead of the game.

Of course, the beam from the DEFTX is a lot larger, so you'd see more at a time, but, if you want to be able to REACH out with a smaller light, this might actually be the top performer as far as I know at least.

Given the teeny beam size, this would be better suited for closer to 100 -200 meter ranges, because that will give almost 80 lux on a target at 100 meters, and there are not many choices out there that can do that.

:D

May be I can male more of these as budget Deft X LOL

I would guess that if you had a 700-800k cd 3" Thrower you'd have a line waiting to grab them.

:D

Ooops, I just looked again, and the 3" is the lens not the length of the light....OK. Well, its still cheaper.

I wish it did have a larger hotspot because my tn31vn still looks more impressive because it lights up so much more. I wish i knew how to put a wavin collor on this. This think would blow away the defx then lol

The collar would not make the beam wider though, it would be even more concentrated.

I don't go below ~ 1.4º beam angle for that reason, the size of the spot just gets too damn small to be useful for SEEING anything. IE: It IS fun to be able to put a spot on a distant target (Hence the laser fun) - but, I USE lights, and, well, the wee beams are just not that useful. If you were using a tight beam like that to illuminate game/a target through a long range scope at night, or to snake through a tight sightline w/o too much glare, OK, the tight beams excel at that...but, mostly, that's all they excel at.

I only go tight when fat can't reach, and a teeny peak at something a long way off IS better than total darkness.

As the original builder of this light. $100 not really possible. That would cover the materials only.

Its a very unique one of i kind light. This light is just awesome. I put in some new samsung inr 20r batteries and got a reading of 8200kcd at 10m:devil:
