I have a couple of Sure Fire lights. I've noticed that several other brands of LED lights can use either two CR123 or one 18650 battery. Is it OK to use one 18650 battery in a Sure Fire flashlight that takes two CR123's?

The only surefire I have heard of that may take an 18650 is the U2, it had a plastic sleeve which could be removed, cr123 batteries are

Quite tight in surefires.

17670 might work, thats what I use in my 4Sevens Quark 123^2. Slightly less runtime than the 18650 but it's rechargeable so it saves a lot of money in the long run.

Hmmm... CR123: 3V each, for a total of 6V. 18650: 3.7V. So, size aside: Unless the light is set up to operate well over 3.7V to 6V: Nope?

Thanks for the replies. I'm not very knowledgeable about electronics & I was afraid to try it. After reading the responses, I tried one & it wouldn't fit. Looks like some flashlights that allow both have a larger-diameter tube.

The Redilast (Sanyo 16650) protected 17670 2000mAh cells fit perfectly in my unbored 6P LED. I even bought the Redilast/EDC+ 3 mode P60 XM-L2 U2 drop in and the light is now actually usable!

And all for only $72 shipped.

Try the 17670s and a good charger like Xtar WP2 II, or VP1 and stop with the 'Primary' mainlining addiction.

17670 do fit in many surefire models. The E2Es take them perfectly
They fit in the E2D lights however they are tight towards the bottom and require full disassembly and a skinny object to push the battery out.

Also keep in mind that surefire lights that accept the 17670 have bulbs that need 6v to be efficient. You'll have to find aftermarket bulbs /LED emitters to match the 3.7v of the 17670.
