I want to buy Luxeon 1W + AA battery (1 X AA is the best, 2 is ok). KL1 seems fit, but need to know more.

Is KL1 + 2xAA true regulated and has a flat output level during most of the battery life ?

From Roy's plot, KL1 is not 100% regulated. Anybody has a plot or measurement beside those from Roy :

The best is to have the schematic of the KL1 regulator.
Is that a up/down converter as it can operated at 1 X CR123 = 3V and 3 X CR123 at 9V while White LED need 3.5-4V.

Please help.

At 6vdc and 9vdc the KL1 has the FLAT output indicative of a regulated light. At 3vdc the KL1 appears (to me) to be dropping out of regulation.

If you really want a LS on single AA, you are going to need a ArcMania microconverter board or similar. Quite a few people have put together booster circuits to run off a single AA. But they aren't as bright as you would expect a 1W LS to be as the single AA can usually only deliver enough to run the LS around 150mA.

Thanks a lot everyone.

It is quite difficult to get a Luxeon 1W run on 1XAA from the market.

If I use NiMH, nominal voltage is just 1.2V.
For 1W power input at 1.2V, current = 0.83A.
DC-DC efficiency at 1.2V usually <70%.
It means battery current will be > 1.2A.
Runtime for a 2000mAh NiMH will be < 1.5hr.

It is acceptable to me, but not much manufacturer make it.
Look like, I need to mod it myself.
