Hi,

I use torches for photography - I paint with light using the torch.

I bought this torch on a recommendation and it is excellent. However, unlike my lenser P7 it runs quite hot. Not hot enough to burn uncomfortably warm.

It came with an Olight battery, a CR123A and I was wondering if

a Is it safe? Is running hot normal - on full power?
b Is it worth trying a new battery?
c I'm a total newbie to torches and batteries really - is a CR123 the same as a CR123A? And which brand is most reliable?

This is my first post to candleforums, fingers crossed I'm in the right place and haven't trodden on any toes :)

Thanks for any help

a. Yes. White LEDs are something like 40% efficient (~120 lumens per watt), ten times better than filaments. But the other 60% is heat, and 60% of a few watts is a couple of watts.
b. Yes. You might break the bank on CR123s. Some rechargeable options may exist. I suggest you avoid Ultrafire rechargeables.
c. Yes, they are the same. An RCR123 is a rechargeable almost-CR123-sized cell. It will usually have higher voltage, possibly enough to cause a problem.

Many thanks for helping me out with this.

I have just checked out a video on youtube on the safe use of cr123's. Very helpful.

Getting wiser all the time :)

Cheers :)
