I am trying to figure out how best to remove this lens without damaging the light. Has anyone successfully removed the retaining ring and if so how? Any help would be appreciated.

As far I know, the ring in front of the glass is pressure-fitted. So removing it, is almost not possible.

I have looked around and seen pics of them with lens removed while being modified. However,I have yet to discover how this was done. I am wondering if there is something like Loctite holding it in place in which case heating it up while in a plastic bag inserted in boiling water may loosen it. I know I have removed Surefire M3 turbo head retaining rings this way. Of course those are threaded but Surefire uses a sealant on them.
