Suggestions for wide throw, light, long life light?

For hiking - not for moving around, but stationary, in the tent or hanging from a branch to light a work area. I have a small two person tent (sometimes 3) and I need something very light which will provide diffuse light enough to read. Most of the lanterns int he lantern group I see are far too bulky - unless I missed something.

On a side note, if I constructed a stareon 1W based light and put a diffuser over it - would it light a 10sq ft area?

Thanks

welcome to the board! you've come to the right place.

i think your best bet would be to purchase a badboy or madmax converter sandwhich from dat2zip (he is a member here), what these do are drop into standard minimags. and while you are at his site, purhcase a mcflood reflector also...they are simply excellent for a broad beam.

it is kind of expensive, but *well* worth it.
mini- $8
board- $40
mcflood- $8(?)
