Hi all,
I check back on this every year or two. Simple question.

Surface brightness king. Still the XR-E? Surely not *still* ?!

Same thing as everyone else: Lumens :nana:

Most people want lux to be thrown. The trend for LEDs is lumens and general lighting, where there is real money to be made. This calls for monster-size LEDs, like the CXA series from Cree, about the size of a quarter with output over 1000 lumens.

A de-domed XP-G2 S2 mounted on a copper pcb (like Sinkpad oder Noctingon) overdriven to 5A+ has by far the highest surface brightness of alle LEDs.
The technical term for surface brightness is "luminance". Different LEDs' luminnance has been compared here (it's in German - use Google translate). The tested XP-G2 was still in the R5-Bin. The luminance of each led is shown in the 5th column from the left (in cd/mm^2).
