What to do? thinking about a thrower.

I've been thinking about a nice thrower using a SBT-70 and an aspherical lens. I want to be able to run it until the battery(ies) die so good heatsinking is a must. Should I get a Maglite modified and use 32650s? I already have one that uses a green PT-54. I want to be able to drive it around 10 amps. Being able to adjust the focus a little bit would be a nice bonus although it would be needed.

So knowing that much, what would you do or suggest?

Anything? I've thought about modding a Skilhunt K30 if I could find a dead one and a lens that would fit.

I think the sst-90 Maglite has been done quite a bit. If you fin the head and have a good thermal path, I don't see a problem. Have you got the driver sorted? If using lithium then Der Wichtel's driver is the way to go. If using alkalines then DIWdiver's driver is the way to go. Just curious, what will you be using it for?

I recently did an sbt-70 aspheric. Mine was direct drive from a single lithium.

I don't really have a use, yet. It's more of a want to have than a need to have.

We shall see if this works better than sharks with lasers beams attached to their heads.

Just thought you had a use lined up when you said 'able to run the batteries down'. There are more efficient leds around but none are round like the sbt-70.
