I was reading the comprehensive thread on grease and lube but didn't really see any thing about using sewing machine oil on the threads of a lite. Is it ok to do so? I have some on hand.

Perfect for lights, plenty of other uses and is great for paper shredders and half the price as well.

I used it for a while, and it was okay, but I switched to Super Lube.

If you have rubber O-rings, petroleum containing lubes can degrade the rings.

Some are more resistant than others...but, you should be aware of it as a potential side effect.

Sewing machine oil is mostly mineral oil, the rest are carriers and things that cut the viscosity (Solvents, etc). If you use mineral oil, it would work about as well, but with fewer solvents.

Using lower weight motor oil would also be similar...or synthetic motor oil.

Anyway - your O-rings might hate you later.

:D

I like the machine oil so far. I have a special lube for the o rings that I got from a plumbing supply store, the machine oil is light and easy to use with no odor. I use it on my EDC Eiger and also on my benchmade knives and it works very well on them.

I think the OP's query has now been covered satisfactorily, so I'm going to close this thread as it is a duplication of other threads.
Best regards,
