I think it was badly worded... as in "Remove batteries [place them aside, or in your Streamlight where they can be put to better use]. Discard flashlight."

I don't know if that would be reasonable nor fair speculation, Wylie. It's a plastic flashlight, from Scripto-Tokai Corp. Do you know of some type of past practices or poor quality from Mag-Lite to indicate such a likelihood?
