Jetbeam BC20 battery question

Just got this off Amazon. Manual states 2xCR123 with no mention of using an 18650. Well, I tried my Nitecore 2300 mah 18650 and it fits/performs fine.

I'm a newer member and just want to know if there would be any adverse effects shoul continue to use this battery or if I should just get a pair of RCR123's.

Checking some info about this light, and I see it support 18650 batteries. Keep in mind, two RCR123 give a higher voltage than two CR123 or one 18650.
You could possibly damage the light, when you start using RCR's, if the light doesn't support it.

I have the previous version of the BC20. I've been using it with RCR with no issues. However mine is fitted with the XPG S2 led, not the XPG R5 that you find in the latest version.

Yeah I've got a few 18650's so I'll end up using those. I emailed Jetbeam today with my serial # just to be sure.

SureFire has marketed the K2 Energy RCR123s which are a nominal 3.0v, so they'll work in place of two CR123A primaries, but capacity isn't all that great. 3.0v RCR123s differ from 3.7v 16340s, even though the size is about the same. Using 2x3.7v 16340s, which come hot off the charger at ~4.2v will probably blow the LED, unless the light is capable of handling that 8.4v number.

If you get acceptable brightness out of a 18650, use that. Heck, you can even buy 4.35v cells, that hold a higher voltage, but need a 4.35v (3.8v nominal) charger like the Xtar VP2, or SP1.
