did buy a nice old flashlight
surplus from swedish army, probebly made in 1986 ;-)
i have tryed it and it was, bad :)
not much light and bad light pattern
it has a 12v 120w sealed beam lamp

i will change this to a led lamp
i can probebly use the trottle to have control of the power to led
only ta have a schothy rectrifier and leds, if i have parallell led's a small balancing resistors and match the leds
an one or two heatsinks, so i can dissconect them from the generator and have them on a higher stand

but, whitch led should i have?
first flood light, whith no reflektors, if i need a beam i vill build anothet led head whit refloctors or lenses
i probebly want two heads, 2x50w

suggestions please

6,45kg empty
1 kg lamp
0.5 liter tank

idle 18v 140hz
halfspeed 33v 224hz
shortciruit current 12A @ 270hz
max powe 20,6v 8,92A = 183w
lamp 11.7v 10.43A = 120w @ 260hz

did try whit a reostat

low speed
16v 1A= 16w
13,7v 2.5A= 34w
12v 3,4A= 41w

medium speed
29,5v 1,77A= 52w
26,8v 3,0A= 80w
24v 4A =86w
21,8v 5,45A= 118w
18,4v 7,2A =132w

did have it on a bad scale @96w

0m 5.22kg
5m 5.19kg
10m 5.18kg
15m 5.15kg
= 0,28kg / hour
0,74kg liter
9.06kwh/liter
0,38liter / hour
=3,44kw/hour
0.096 / 3.44 = 2.8% from gas to electricity

That looks pretty cool. I would be tempted to just get a better bulb, or a large reflector and lens. Not the stealthiest of lights, but a cool concept.

Ha! I didn't know what to make of your title. But, that is wild. New one for me. I am guessing that is for outside use only in a well ventilated area!

I'd be converting to HID not LED, far less work and more lumens for dollars spent.

a new halogen lamp an reflector would get more light
the sealed beam lamp that is whit it is usless, whit 120w in its not better than one 55w halogen car headlight

dont know if its possible to get a hid working whit it, the generator is "weak" whit no load att all the voltage out is about 30v Ac
and whit 12A load its 0v output
thath would need a large external voltage regulator, probebly whit 3 18650 batterys or some large supercaps

i was thinking about cree xp-l Neutral White , XPLAWT-00-0000-000LV40E5
the best would be to have them driven @ 1w and about 100 of them, but thats over my budget fore now
but if i would get about 36 of the xm-l it would be possible
but, is thera a better option than the xm-l? " that price

HID is more efficient than your sealed beam, HIDs drawn extra current on start up but current drops when the bulb fires up. You could easily run a 100W HID if it's running your 120W sealed beam OK.

I'm sure more experienced members will chip in.

That's things awesome. I'd keep it stock, for a while at least.

It looks like a hexagonal flood bulb. That pattern is actually a lot more useful then you might think if you gave it a chance.

dont worry, i will not do anything thats not possible to change back :)

it has a 7" car light, but i was looking fore a replacment reflector so i can use h1,h2,h3,h4,h7 bulbs instead and around here (sweden) it was not much to choose from
i will take a look at ebay and the rest of the net to

about hid, it is not possible to get more current at start, 12A is short curcuit current and it is not possibel to runt it @ 12-14v whit more than 10.5-11A

my primary use of it will probebly be light fore outdor use, ex, hunting, taking care of moose and wildbore , repairs and other things thats is whitin 10m from the light

but there are a possibly other fun thing, in the manual its mentioned that it is possible to connect a 12v carger instead of the lamp, and that is one thing i realy want, a portable gasoline driven attery charger, it only needs a rectifier and a amp meter, some fuses to
will build that to some day

i have been thinking and used my googlefu

i will start trying to do 3 things
did order som 7" h3 reflektors, one pencil en one normal extra frontlight, this should be easy to change from the one thats in it now

1, new reflektor and 100w h3 halogen bulb, whit the 120w original sealed bem, i could not go higher than 11.9v,
whit a 100w bulb i probebly can go til 14v and get more ligt out of it, dont care if i dont get so many hours from each bulb

2, did find 70w hid that will work from 8-30v, and a startup current that is max 5.5-6A, maybe it is possible to run 2 oft them if i dont start them at the same time

3, will try the cre xm-l, i did order 20 , and will put them on a nice heatsink that fits the lamp, but i will use them inside as aworking light when they are not in use on the flashlight

a quick update
did get some new 7" refelktors, and bougt some 100w halogenbulbs
havent tryed them yet, i was waiting for a pair of 70w hid konversoin kits
did get them and, suprise, they was not what i bought
i hade been looking fore 12-24(32)v hid drivers, so i dont fry them when the generators is running whit no load an high voltage output
(will clamp i down do about 30v anyway)
did find them on ebay and bought them, but when i opend the box , 13.2 (16vmax)
will se what happends now, but it will take some time

and the same thing whit my cree led, did order them and i get them fast, but it was the wrong model, but if everything works out right i have the new this week

looks likte this projekt will take som loong time to get finish :tired:

Wait what, you want your hid to be rated for no load voltage ?

But they won't be connected when there is no load.

whit 70w load i think thats is possible tog get higher voltage than 18V if i slip whit the gas throttle
it is not a regular 12v generator
there are hid drivers thats works from 12 to 24 v, and i did look fore those, payd fore it and did get a 12v version then i am not happy whit it

when it is possible to avoid problems whit only choosing the riggt things, i want to do it, but i dont like sellers that dont ship what they wrote in ther ad's

and, it is possible to fry electronics in µs whit overvoltage, i dont want to do this

Come to think of it, you'd probably need to rectify the output to clean DC in order to run the HID.

The generator probably works similar to most, just without proper regulation.
You could probably fit it with some sort of automotive regulator to get the proper voltage you need without suffering too much loss.
