That's easy, a light the size and quality
of an Arc AA with 3 brightness levels, the
brightest being that of a Mad Max+, and
will run for 10 hours... Don't want
much do I? Oh and while I'm wishing,
let's have the same throw as a 4D Mag.

How about a surefire L1 with a reflector and a 5w emitter? Or more simply, a L4 with a low setting in addition to the standard output?

How about an L4, but with all the features and customization of the LS4.

Re: The Light I\'d Really Like to See in 2004 is...

I would like to see a light that uses 4 123 batteries in a 2x2 arrangement like some of the 4AA lights use driving a 5W luxeon. I would like to see it adjustable in brightness between a low setting that would still preserve night vision to a high setting approximately as bright as a Space Needle II. I would like it to have a recessed clickie switch for signalling or turning the light on or off, but would still allow you to stand it on end in candle mode. It would not need to be totally waterproof, but I would like to be able to use it on rainy days without water getting inside.
I would prefer being able to adjust the brightness by turning the head. That way, if you like a certain brightness setting, it would turn on/off at that preferred brightness setting.

Has multi-level intensity based on 5 watt LED.
Is regulated to provide white, bright beam during life of battery.
Will work both with Pila rechargeable battery and 123s.
Is small, light, and compact (like SF L4) but with SF L5 quality clicky switch.
Has soft area near switch so light can be held in teeth.
Is waterproof.
Has removable SF L5 (or M2 or M3) type lanyard attachment ring that is free to turn to any direction around the flashlight.
SureFire or Arc quality and ruggedness.

LS 5 watt's Lumens in a 1 watt die. CRI of high 90s. Adjustable brightness. runs off 4AA batteries. in a D size package. So we get something like Otokoyama's "Bazooka" 3 inches of reflector goodness with a 1 watt die and a adjustable DB. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Everything is there already except the 1 watt. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'd like a very simple variable-output, Arc LS-sized flashlight with 1-Watt LED. Simple enough, eh? But what I wish for is The Switch - a clicky tail switch to turn it on/off plus a twisty action to regulate the power to the LED. No complex double-click-what-have-you nonsense to access different light levels for me, thank you.

How about a 60 lumen LS4 with a 3 hour run time and a CRI of 100. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A Surefire M6 size/type body/bezel with 4 5watt luxeons set in the reflector, and a very long throw. Also like to have a rechargeable version.

Any new flashlight from Mag, an LED would be expecting too much from them.

I want an Arc LS4 that uses a U ranked Luxeon III!
Throw it in "boost mode" and see what 100 lumens looks like. The U ranked Luxeon III's should be available in March so... it is possible.
