I was kinda bummed during a rushed de-doming of an xml2 on Noctigon last night when I sliced through the bond wires. As I was browsing to find a replacement to order I got kinda annoyed that I couldn't just get the light up and running.

So I soldered the jump from the substrate to to the die.

So far, so good. If you zoom in on the picture you can see that there's a little phosphor missing so the tint is pretty bad, but it lights up!

I tried doing the same thing with an xpg2 I wrecked a while ago without any luck. Same with an old sst-90. I didn't have high hopes for either of those though because the xpg2 is soo tiny to work on and the sst-90 has like 20 bond wires on each side of the die.

SST 90 is super simple for dedooming take only minute time ;-))

You missed the point. I wasn't trying to dedome the sst-90, it was an accident that also removed all of the bond wires.

We're talking about actually connecting the substrate to the led die with solder. I'm curious if anyone else has had any success attempting this. Is there another way?
