I just bought a new Surefire M951 and I would like to upgrade the bulb to a new LED. I did a lot of searching and I found some mixed answers regarding what I want to do. Ideally, I'd like to get a Malkoff M61 but I heard theres issues with just dropping it in, that part of the light would have to be bored. Is that true since this light and the 6P both use the P60 lamp and the Malkoff has no issue fitting in the 6P? If the Malkoff won't work in there, can anyone recommend a drop in that would fit right? Ideally I would like 200-300 lumens and a good amount of throw, with some spill as well. Thanks a lot,

The M61 will work in the 951, but do to variations over the production lifetime there are a few caveats:

1. You may, or may not, need to stretch the tail spring on the dropin.

2. You may, or may not, need to use the black fitting ring we sell.

3. If there is a black grommet in the throat of the light, it will need to be removed (snaps out) with needle nosed pliers.

If you need help with the installation, please feel free to give me a call.

Thanks, Gene Malkoff
