I have a CREE LED flashlight rated at 1600 lumens with adjustable focus like this one:

I want to change the color of the light from white to orange/amber. It is important that with the new color I can still get a very focused small beam. I thought of two options:

1. Use an amber/orange filter lens in front of the flashlight. I understand that filters have some losses.

or

2. Replace the LED with an orange/amber LED. I looked around for orange LED and I found some for 250lumens which is not close to the 1600 lumens claimed for this flashlight.

What do you recommend is the mod that would give me the most lumens without sacrificing the narrow focused beam?

I'd personally use a filter to minimise lumens loss via an LED change. I would see if I could place the filter on the inside flat surface of the lens rather than in front of it if it is plausible. This would mean pulling it apart. Otherwise, stick said filter in the front, again, if its possible.
