Issue with contact with Nitecore P15 & 18650 battery

I got ahold of a Nitecore P15 flashlight and some Panasonic 18650 batteries.

It is kind of hard to see in the images, but the 18650 batteries are flat on the top. I tried to push down on part of the battery cover to get the metal more exposed.

Looks like the Nitecore P15 positive end is recessed. No contact between battery and flashlight.

Any suggestions, or just get different batteries?

The P series Nitecore light have a reverse polarity feature, which you just found

Button cell batteries only or you can rig an extension on the positive side of the battery.

I was anticipating that. I know nothing about batteries. So, basically I'd have to solder something onto the current battery?

Yes, but use caution or the cell might vent a very nasty gas.
You can purchase rare earth magnets and crazy glue them in place or just purchase the correct cells.
For someone new, you'd be better off purchasing 2 new protected button topped batteries and a quality charger.
Two batteries and charger should be under $50.

DO NOT PURCHASE ANY BATTERY WITH FIRE IN ITS NAME.

I have a Nitecore Intellicharger i2. I'll find some decent batteries that are button top. In the meantime, I'll try to figure out how to fix these.

I just took the other side of the Nitecore off and noticed that it does seem to be making contact. I am wondering if I got a DOA flashlight.
