The 2006 to current incandescent version of the Eveready 1251, the stripped down IN251 and the LED version EVINL25S have a similar color to the modern Union Pacific locomotives. The 1960s version of the 1251 has similar colors to Southern Pacific locomotives. The 1950s version of the 1251 has similar colors as Illinois Central locomotives. I wonder if the last two were ever issued by Southern Pacific or Illinois Central...

So it was never answered...

BUT...

I saw a lot of 4 (eff-oh-you-are) 1950s versions of this light that were Union Pacific company issue on ebay. They were a bit out of my price range though. The modern day version of this flashlight IN251WBS ~2006-present has a yellow color that is very similar to the color of a modern Union Pacific locomotive.

The ~1992 version is a brighter prettier yellow.

I have seen a rare 1970s or 1980s version of the explosion proof 1259 on ebay some time ago.

Then the 1960s polyethylene red and black model resembles the Southern Pacific (and now Union Pacific heritage) locomotives.

Finally the 1950s original version was the same color black as the Illinois Central locomotives.

Does anyone else have any useful information on the history of the Eveready 1251?

I did some googling with no luck. There may be a book on railroad flashlights out there.

Right now on ebay there are some 1954 Eveready 1251 flashlights that were Union Pacific company issue. Comes with extra lenses and bulbs. Unfortunately they are out of my price range at the moment.

It was INDEED a railroad issue flashlight, at least for the Kansas City Southern.

I was discussing railroad flashlights with non flashaholics and one person showed me a 1960s or 1970s version of the Eveready 1251 that used to have KCS printed on it...
