Pretty good article on LEDs replacing conventional lighting in the Tech section of today's (1/8) NYT (article - NYT reg. required); talks about a London designer whose apartment is completely lit by LEDs (for only $50,000 - /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif). Also talks about LED Christmas lights (from Forever Light), LED accent lights (from GELcore -- anyone have any experience with these?) and OLEDs.

I bought one of the GE accent lights from WalMart a short time ago for $24.95 It has 5 spider L.E.D.s about 2 inches apart on 16 ga. outdoor lighting style wire. Small AC wall wart. Haven't done anything other than use it in a hall so far. Think it draws about 3W though rated at 5W max. Produces a whole lot less light than a 5W CFL drawing about 8W total (with ballast). Had planed to post more info sometime in future. Color is kinda a warm white with some minor green artifacts. It is the currently featured product on GELcore's homepage.

Have a Norelco shaver with O.L.E.D.s and a Li-ion battery, but bought it because it can be rinsed under water.
