Reading here and seeing that surefire backs the K2 or tenergy products lead me to purchase the K2 energy charger and batteries (altho i went with Li-ion 123 instead)

So I got my new P2x fury Surefire and my K2 energy charger and batteries (im all excited), I plug the charger in, pop the cells in and... POWWWW the charger blows up and emits plastic burning smoke. I contact K2 let them know what happen they promptly send me another unit. I plug that unit in and walk across my room to grab the cells and.... POWWWW the charger proceeds to blow up and emit some more burning plastic smoke. ( now im furious, all I want to do is play with my Surefire and I cannot). Now I need to see what is going on. I open the unit and immediately see the problem. A capacitor labeled ChongX 220uf 16V has blown up shooting out brown paper like material all over the charger. I contact K2 and the ebay seller (batteries in a flash) and told them I no longer want your charger just send me cells and they did. I am now super happy with my nitcore I4 intellicharger that works flawlessly so far and charges my 18650 plus my cr123.

I'm not 100% sure, but the K2 Energy charger is designed to charge K2 Energy cells, which are different from standard 3.6/3.7v ICR/IMR cells. LiFePO4 I believe is the chemistry that K2 cells use and they're 3.2v cells IIRC.

What cell were you using the the K2 charger when it blew up on you?

Those LifeP04 cells should not be charged in a Nitecore Intellicharger. The I4 can charge NIMH and 3.6/3.7 LiIons, not the 3.2 K2 cells.

Yes, K2 specializes in IFR (LiFePO4). You're probably blowing up your chargers by charging ICR cells (which is what it sounds like you went with). If you got some new cells from K2, they will be IFR cells . Do NOT charge these on the I4! You need an IFR charger. Nitecore's D2 and D4 can safely charge IFR cells. Also, Tenergy makes a dedicated 2 channel IFR charger (model TN-385) that will work with the K2 RCR123 cells.

I'm not sure what's going on. I'd like to see the logo and specs on both the batteries and the charger.
I have K2 charger and batteries. I also have talked directly to K2 with questions I've had. The service and answers I received were impressive, and left with me high confidence of K2.
