I don´t like the one switch design of Arc4 at all .
Doubleclicking, tripleclicking,clicking 10 times,with or
without holding it .... awful!
What about a second switch, for example a turning switch ,which allows the user to preselect 6 or 7
brightness levels and the tactical modes by turning the head and to activate the
flashlight with the tailswitch ?
I don´t know wether the design of Arc5 is already completed
but perhaps we can see anything like this on Arc6 .

What's so awful? You can get simple on/off with nothing more than a single click. If you want the more advanced features, you can access it when you want as well. If you want to adjust the preset levels, you do it once and it remembers it.

I, for one, love the fact that it's a single button. I absolutely hate potted switches (turning switches) because they get "noisy" and have horrible performance over time due to corrosion, dust, wear, etc.

Also, using a turning switch + the tail switch means you have to do everything with two hands. The single tail switch allows all functionality to be accessed with a single hand.

Just my two cents. I can't wait till we can order this thing! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

rotating switches were considered initially, but peter chose to use the single button for reliability reasons.

personally, i like it.

Frank, I don't understand your concern with the switching design of the Arc4. In its simplest form, click once to turn the light on. Click again to turn it off. You can't get much easier than that, with the possible exception of voice-activation.

Having a second switch I could get every function , even
the tactical modes immediatetely without endlessly
(10 times and more ) clicking the tailswitch .
Also I won´t need booth hands every time I use the light.
I could select the wished mode any time and could activate
it with one hand .
As a further advantage towards the arc4 I could see the selected mode in the position of the head (or feel it in
darkness).

My spies tell me that the Arc5 will have a completely different form factor than the Arc4, square in shape with knobs to control the brightness, blinking frequency, etc. It also has a built-in radio and doubles as a boat anchor:

My suggestions are:

1) add switch guard to allow for tail standing and to also give the light slightly more length in the hand for a bit better opertion without the front of your hand covering some of the beam during operation. Switch guard will also eliminate the need for software lockout.

2) couple rings of knurling around the top of the head to keep the light stationary in the hand if your hand is wet etc.

3) make me a tester!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Very interesting link you got there, paulr /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What the interval between each clicks of the Arc4?
Or can I just start clicking away as fast as I can up until I count 10? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

TIN-

Your idea about "voice activated" switches, is an old one!

Back in days past I had several 2D flashlights that would come on only after I shouted several profane curse words! Voice activated!

Yes, I think that works. The Arc4 will adapt to you clicking speed and there should be no speed limit :)

I think it would be cool if there could be an audible beep when you achieve the 10 clicks to confirm that you did it right. then you wouldn't even have to look at it.
