We have vandals and want to install cameras but there is no power at where we want to install them. So do any of you have any ideas?

Solar panel and a battery should work. What is the distance between available power and the camera? And how do you plan to transfer the video? GSM, Wifi or on site recording?
The simplest option is probably a trail camera with GSM. Run on a few AA batteries that last for months. When it detect motion it snaps pictures and or video, store them on a memory card and send them to your phone.

You can use IP cameras that use the Power-over-Ethernet (POE) standard. They're more expensive than conventional cameras but all you have to to is run a single CAT-5 cable to the camera from a nearby switch that has POE ports on it.

Polar's suggestion is actually the most streamlined.

A simple game camera as described...and you're done.

They are MEANT for this...and, can be set up to wifi to a central transmitter too, so a bunch can be set up, and they all send to a transmitter which then calls your phone, or, for your range, IS you.

For hunting, you strap them to a tree (Camo), aimed at the area of concern....and they wait for motion, and take movies or pics if something's moving. As there's no flash, no noise, etc...the bad guys will be as clueless as the deer or other game are about being under surveillance.

If you set it to call your phone, its now an alarm too....one that shows you a pic or movie of what's going on...so you can call the police with descriptions, not just that there's vandals.

They take regular batteries, AA/AAA etc...no need for solar.
