I was doing routine maintenance on my Surefire lights, cleaning threads, lubing "O" rings, etc, when I noticed this on my L2 Digital Lumamax:

It looks like the LED became rabid and filled with foam. It still illuminates, but I am baffled as to what happened. Should I call Surefire? None of my other Surefire lights(nor any of my other lights for that matter) have "melted" or foamed like this. Any ideas as to what may have caused this? Suggestions/opinions gladly accepted.

The LuxV's in the SF L2's ran very hot and there have been a few reports of reduced lifetimes as a result.
I'd guess that the silicone dome encapsulating the LED has fried, but I can't say for sure as I haven't seen this specific failure mode before.

I wouldn't hesitate, send it back to SF and dollars-to-donuts I'd bet you'd get a brand new LX2 as a replacement.

Surefire replaced the LED and it is back to working good as new!

I really scored with my E1B Backup- there was particulate matter on the reflector(a dramatic change from how it usually looked), Surefire graciously replaced the entire head with the new upgraded EB1 head-all at no charge.
