Re: YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAA- moving tomarrow- panic set
Big_Ed has the right idea. Get going on being ready!
Having moved several times the whole household I would make general recomendations.
You know how much stuff you have, the estimator from the moving company will almost always underestimate. Especially if you have stuff packed away. The other BIG thing to underestimate is book shelves. We have a lot of books and they are not just one row to a shelf but are stacked every which way so that they all fit. They can't estimate it that way. GET A BINDING ESTIMATE, or a NOT TO EXCEED estimate. And then be prepared to pay the not to exceed amount. 2 out of 3 moves I got a binding estimate. The middle time the fellow wouldn't give me one and I learned why, because he underestimated our stuff (even after I explained to him about the books and all the problems the last movers had) to the tune of OVER $2,000 dollars!!!! (thats on top of the moving fee already agreed upon) So get a binding estimate. And if they won't give you one, why won't they give you one?
If you don't have a lot of time, or have a family to take care of or something. I also have had VERY good luck letting the movers pack the stuff for us. It adds considerably to the price, but they come in and in one day EVERYTHING is safely packed in boxes. I've never had anything that they packed get broken. A few scratches on furniture and things, but no major problems. It's wonderful to have it be just all done in one day. On the truck the next day and then in your house.
If you know you're moving in a couple of years, start saving for this service now, it's worth every penny! They are able to do this so quickly because they pack by location and not by category /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif When I do it it's almost impossible for me to put everything into one box, I try to organize it. The movers just put whatever they find within reach into the same box. This leads to interesting finds when unpacking, but you just can't do as good or as fast a job yourself.
And, instead of breaking the boxes down, use some of the leftover tape and build a castle /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
