I have a brand new Fenix PD25 from Amazon .... Its stepping down right away in light intensity like the battery is getting low..... When I go to the highest setting in 2 seconds in goes down one..... then 2 seconds down to level two..... I have tried (4) newly charged LFP123's that all work flawlessly in my PD22UE ..... tried cleaning the contacts and basic things.... .could this be my first bad Fenix? I have about (10) and this would be the first..... any advice would be great.... Thanks! (It seems ok with primary CR123's..... I am using K2-LFP123 as the rechargeables..... these are great in my PD22UE )

Hi there MadMoe ,from a little google(correct me if wrong),the cells are showing as 3.2v . This if the case with your cells, they seem causing the light to step down straight away ,down to the lower cell V.

So i would say try some 16340 cells and all should be good. Presume a different driver to why they are ok in the pd22......

:welcome:

Try ICR/IMR cells in the 3.6-4.2v range. The PD25 probably has Li-ion protection and is sensing the LFP (IFR) cells as dying ICR/IMR cells and is stepping down.

(Hehe, Ven beat me to the enter button)

I cut and pasted this to give you a idea of the voltage and output changes. Looks like a huge step down from Turbo to High. However, try a regular Cr123 and see if you get 400 lumen to stay on.
if your cell is rated for 3.2 volts, it probably charges to around 3.7, so the light thinks its a 16340, but as the voltage drops, it thinks its a CR123, then you go from 550, to 400, then to 150 within seconds. I guess that is what is going on.

  • Four Output Modes Plus Strobe
    • Turbo: CR123A Battery: 400 Lumens - 1 hr. 10 min.; 16340 battery: 550 Lumens - 35 min.
    • High: CR123A Battery: 150 Lumens -3 hr. 15 min.; 16340 battery: 150 Lumens - 2 hr. 25 min.
    • Mid: CR123A Battery: 50 Lumens - 9 hr. 5 min.; 16340 battery: 50 Lumens - 7 hr. 10 min.
    • Low: CR123A Battery: 5 Lumens - 100 hr.; 16340 battery: 5 Lumens - 53 hr.
    • Strobe: CR123A Battery: 400 Lumens; 16340 battery: 550 Lumens

I assumed it was probably something with the driver not liking that specific battery..... Will try some different ones. Thank you all for your help!
