In the course of her Internet research, she stumbled upon a Web site for the Fertility Institutes in Los Angeles, headed by Dr. Jeffrey Steinberg, where she learned about an in vitro fertilization technique called preimplantation genetic diagnosis. By creating embryos outside the womb, then testing them for gender, PGD could guarantee—with almost 100 percent certainty—the sex of her baby. Price tag: $18,480, plus travel.

The morning after pill doesn't permit the fertilized egg to become imbedded properly in the womb. Because fertilization has occurred, some religions oppose it. I would suspect that fertilization outside the womb, and then discarding the embryo for being the wrong sex would be as morally repugnant. I suppose if some could deliberately abort because of the sex of the child, this procedure would likely be well embraced by some also.

yeah.. i myself am split on my feelings of it all..

in general i think it's way overboard, but in certain instances, say, to avoid diseases that will more likely effect one sex over the other, it's a nice effort..
