Surefire Fury P3X mods
The P3X can be run with three different power sources:
- 3xCR123 as designed by the company
- 2x18500 after boring
- 2x18650 using a 1-cell extender & a short spacer
Why does the Fury need the spacer? Because 2x18650 will not allow the tailcap to fully seat, due to the length of the two cells. This image shows the positive end of 2x18650 compared to 4xCR123:

When 2x18650 are installed in the tube this is the gap between the body & the extender:

The process of machining a spacer starts with 1" diameter brass rod. First op is facing the end smooth:

The end is then center drilled:

Next a drill is selected that will make a hole that's about 97%-98% of desired size:

Re: Surefire Fury P3X mods
Drilling is followed by reaming to quickly get to the necessary size:

The spacer is parted off the bar & supported by an expanding arbor for final finishing & smoothing:

Here's the P3X ready to run. Removing the spacer quickly converts the light back to a 3-cell.

Re: Surefire Fury P3X mods
There are quite a few options listed in the prior posts. If you'll list out what you want to have done I'll be happy to figure up a price.

Re: Surefire Fury P3X mods
Hello Barry,
What would be the cost for the following:
- Surefire Fury P3X modification for 2x18650 using a 1-cell extender & a short spacer
Cost would include boring the P3X body, the extender and the spacer. Can you provide a picture of the spacer (the pictures in the second post, above, don't work)? I'll also be sending along a P2X body for boring as well.
Thank you!
Colin

Colin, sorry for the late reply.
Cost for boring the P3X is $120 for two week delivery or $60 with indefinite delivery.
I don’t supply the spacer any more nor do I supply the extender. Oveready is the best source for the extender. The body will normally work without the spacer by using cells that are not over length.
Note: Please send only the bare body without O-rings, without head and without tail cap. If the head cannot be removed the boring cost is triple that shown above.
