I'm new here and definitely new to middling flashlights. As my username implies one of my favorite hobbies is bowfishing...from my kayak. In the past I've used a 200 lumen flashlight powered by 2 AA's that's fastened to the riser of my bow (for aiming and shooting). On top of this I also use a Coast HL7 powered by 3 AAA's. I've been successful with this setup on plenty of occasions.
My biggest problem is I go through batteries like crazy and my lights dim much quicker than I'd like. Here's what I want to do: buy a Coast HL27 or HL8 and power it with a 6V 12Ah SLA.
Why such a big battery? - I've got four I use for a fishfinder, they're sitting there otherwise, and they were free!
Weight isn't an issue as the battery will be fastened to my kayak in a battery box, not on my waist/head/etc.
I'm considering a resistor for this.
What ya'll think?
