Str8- While I respect your opinion, and right to express it, maybe that was better taken care of via pm...

10-4. I wasn't sure. I would normally never post that, however being a "feeler" I figured he wanted feedback too. Thank you

No worries here Str8stroke

Thanks for keeping the thread on track scout24. I would have been a shame for this thread to have died because we all got banned LOL!

I would like a D36 drop in.

Seems like I've heard that somewhere before :)

This would be nice! Are this Triples?

I was thinking about doing singles with these to take advantage of the A grade reflector that came in them. I suppose a multi LED set up would be possible.

MMMM... tough call. The reason being is this. The reflector would probly need to be bored. Boring reflectors is very very risky. If even the slightest crumb falls into the reflector while its being bored its a disaster. A mill is actually far better for boring than a lathe, it takes some of that risk out because the head is stationary. I guess if the project moves forward I can look into it, but at this point I'll have to secure my position on the fence about it :poke:

Re: Feeler for Modified Surefire KL6 head.

I'm not familiar with the KL6 head. I had PM'd you a while back about a D36 Dropin for my TnC hosts, I am still interested in that - not sure if this is basically the same thing or not?

Let me know and I'll send you one of my TnC D36 hosts if you need one for fit or comparison. At the price point you have in OP, I would be in for one.

I'm on the fence about what I would go for. XHP-50 would be my first choice but I'm not crazy about 2 cell setups (although your other dropins have pushed me over that edge).
XP-L might also be a good option to stick with for a single cell setup. I would be interested in projected brightness and beam shape here. I've got some XM-L2s already, so would need to one-up that setup for interest.

FiveMega also made a bunch of D36 heads that people have out there. The FM hosts were slightly longer from lens to power source than the TnC hosts, but I know nailbender was able to fit his D36 dropins to either the TnC or the FM hosts as long as he knew which one you had before building the dropin.

Re: Feeler for Modified Surefire KL6 head.

Onebigday I will shoot you a PM about that project.

It looks like the KL6 heads will be a go. BulletBob (the owner of the heads) said he sent payment for them and should have them once the seller returns from holiday.

I will be finalizing the design specs and posting about that once they are in hand.

I just Got my L6 Porcupine and this would be a perfect Mod for it!

Matt said He would have a look and see if he can do it.

From looking at how amazingly deep the Reflector is in a KL6 Head, this would create an excellent thrower.

Heads are bring shipped to Matt on 5/26/16. I had some personal things that caused me some delays in getting them packed and ship but the project is a go.

The heads have been shipped. Matt did one for me with a XML-U2 emmiter that I put on an FM single 26650 body. Boy does it throw and is it bright! I am having the next one done with a PH50. Can hardly wait.

Re: Feeler for Modified Surefire KL6 head.

The heads have arrive. All looking very nice with a good finish in Mint condition.

I have done some testing now so I think we have enough information to move forward. I tried all 3 of the emitters mentioned to make sure they would work. All of them have a similar profile because of the very deep KL6 OP reflector.

Tight hot spot, with very bright spill and powerful but well blended corona. Because of the orange peel in this reflector the corona is almost not detectable even on a wall. It makes the transition between the hot spot and the spill very elegant.

XPL HI

XHP50 De-dome

All 3 options (XML2, XPLHI, XHP50 Dedome) have a tight hot spot and bright spill.

The de-dome on the XHP50 is needed to reduce the darkness in the center of the beam. Full disclosure is that there is still a faint article in the center when shined on a wall. The photo bleeds it out but its there :)

All in all I am very impressed with the beam made by this reflector. To be honest I would actually rank the XML2 as the 1 one best followed by XPL HI. A full list of all options will be posted in the OP.
